Artist Spotlight: Local Pottery N'at

Blake Anthony: Artist /Ceramicist /Owner of Pittsburgh Pottery

At CURIO we are always looking for different artwork to keep things fresh and exciting! About 2 years ago we were honored to partner with Blake, from Pittsburgh Pottery, and become one of the only locations to showcase his ceramic work outside of their personal studio and arts festivals.

What first caught our eye was the unique and whimsical drawings he was putting on his mugs. These pieces, specifically known as the "RAD" series allow Blake to let his creativity run free! Each image is digitally drawn then printed out in a modified printer that renders the image using powdered glaze. The graphic is then adhered to the ceramic vessel and fired to create a permanent illustration that is infused onto the mug. All of the ceramics are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe.

For our born and bred Pittsburghers, Blake offers the perfect nod to “Pittsburghese." His Pittsburgh based mugs include phrases like Jagoff, Yinzer, and Drink Up Yinz Bitches! They are a perfect gift for anyone that is still in the 'burgh or for someone that has left and is still a Yinzer (or Jagoff) at heart. Don't need a mug? Grab a magnet or ornament instead!

Behind their retail space located in Carnegie Pennsylvania, is the ceramics studio where each piece is handcrafted from wheel to kiln. All of the pottery is fired multiple times to create their iconic imagery and ceramic work of many different shapes and styles. From hand painted, off the wall artwork, to uniform solid glazed and decal infused pieces, you will be sure to find the perfect item you are looking for. Be sure to stop in and check out their work available in CURIO year round!
