Patrick Schmidt

Patrick Schmidt has been a Professor of Art at Washington & Jefferson College for 20+ years and currently teaches painting, drawing, and design. He has exhibited paintings, drawings, drawing installations and sculptures in L.A., NYC, Washington DC, Florence and Cosenza Italy, Germany and most recently Hungary. Patrick’s work is in several private and public collections and he is represented by the Thomas Punzmann Contemporary (gallery) in Frankfort Germany, in the UK by the Baker Howard Contemporary in London, Art Ventures Gallery, Menlo Park (San Francisco), and the Todd Weiner Gallery in Kansas City, MO.

Patrick has attended residencies at Box of Contemporary Space in Cosenza, Italy and in Orquevaux, France. In addition, I have participated in “The Other Art Fair” in Brooklyn, and the Spring Break Art Show in NYC.

Patrick’s paintings can most easily be characterized as hard-edged geometric abstract art. His work explodes with saturated colors and draws attention to the labor-intensive techniques used to create his work. Patrick draws inspiration from Pop Art and Op Art although it is not necessarily directly apparent in his work.

Patrick resides in Pittsburgh with his wife (a used bookstore owner) and their dog Ms. Moneypenny. He enjoys traveling, cooking, minimal/post-minimal music, yoga and the occasional playing of his cello.
