LAURA STEWART

Laura is a multidisciplinary artist, who works primarily in photographic media and with watercolor painting. She received her BFA (2018) from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Photography. She is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is currently based in both Pittsburgh and Vermont.

Laura explores the relationships between place, land, and nature of both Vermont and Pittsburgh and the personal connections she has formed there through images, paintings, and poetry. With interest in the meaning of and relationship to an environment when time has passed, and physical distance becomes a barrier. Seeking to define the significance of our emotional connections to a place and how these connections evolve and impact our present.

Laura dove into painting Pittsburgh during quarantine when she would drive and photograph the quiet city. Excited by the constant exploration and hometown connection, the Pittsburgh series continues to grow. Some of her favorite scenes to paint are the many Pittsburgh bridges, restaurants, and gloomy & foggy nights in the city.
